History nestled between stone
walls and wooden beams

A baserri farmhouse with
centuries of history

This building is much more than a restaurant, it is a traditional baserri Basque farmhouse with centuries of history, a place where history has left its mark between the stone walls and the wooden rafters.
In the past, La Sidre was a plough shed and wine store, witness to the comings and goings of the many generations who dedicated their lives to the land and to gastronomy.
In 1983, it changed direction: the space was turned over to the Basque traditions of cider making and charcoal grill, which, with the passing of time and under the new ownership of Óscar Abajo (a loyal customer of the restaurant) has become a point of reference for those seeking the very essence of Basque cuisine.

A magical setting

Armentia wasn’t always the forest we see today. For decades, over-exploitation and wildfires reduced this beautiful setting to a critical state. What in its heyday was a vibrant ecosystem became fragmented, eroded and vulnerable until its transformation and recovery began in 1974 which restored the natural balance and turned the forest into the botanical park that we can enjoy today.
Its trees continue to grow, its paths invite visitors to walk through nature and its history reminds us that the environment, given the appropriate care and attention, always finds a way to be reborn.
